Reasons
to Recycle Waste Paper in the Workplace
Reduce Disposal
Costs. The cost your company now incurs for refuse disposal
can be cut dramatically by recycling waste paper. Why not
save money and save the environment?
Your Company
Generates More Waste Paper than you think. On average, each
employee discards 2 pounds of potentially recyclable paper
everyday. Multiply this by the number of employees in
your company. This tonnage is what you're paying to
have hauled away.
Click here for information on how to start a recycling
program.
Using
recycled paper to make new (virgin) products saves trees,
water, oil and electricity. It also conserves landfill
space, reduces energy demands, saves tax
dollars, helps create new jobs, and lessens the stress on
our environment.

top reasons to recycle.
Recycling Enhances
Your Company’s Public Image. Statistics show that
employees that work in a “green” environment are happier.
Midstates Recycling Services provides an
Ecological Report to our customers that shows the
amount of material collected from their facility and breaks
down the positive effects that it has made on the
environment.
This is a great tool for employees to see their efforts as
well as for audit purposes.

Recycling Facts:
If
all our newspaper was recycled, we could
save about 250,000,000 trees each year!
If every American recycled just
one-tenth of their newspapers, we would
save about 25,000,000 trees a year.
The amount of wood and paper we throw
away each year is enough to heat
50,000,000 homes for 20 years.
The average household throws away 13,000
separate pieces of paper each year. Most
is packaging and junk mail.
In 1993, U.S. paper recovery saved more
than 90,000,000 cubic yards of landfill
space.
Recycling one ton of paper, the amount
that 5 office workers use a year, saves
approximately 20 trees, eliminates 60
pounds of air pollutants and saves
enough energy to power the average home
for six months.
|
Each ton (2000 pounds) of recycled paper can save 17
trees, 380 gallons of oil, three cubic yards of
landfill space, 4000 kilowatts of energy, and 7000
gallons of water. This represents a 64% energy
savings, a 58% water savings, and 60 pounds less of
air pollution!
The 17 trees saved (above) can absorb a total of 250
pounds of carbon dioxide from the air each year.
Burning that same ton of paper would
create
1500 pounds of carbon dioxide.
An aluminum can that is
thrown away will still be a can 500 years from now!
There is no limit to the amount of times aluminum
cans may be recycled.
We use over 80,000,000,000 aluminum soda cans every
year.
A 60-watt light bulb can be run for over a day on
the amount of energy saved by recycling 1 pound of
steel. In one year in the United States, the
recycling of steel saves enough energy to heat and
light 18,000,000 homes! |
